“Update: had the crew come back a few months later for the exterior. You won’t be disappointed. We hired A New Leaf to repaint the interior of our home, and we couldn’t be happier! Thomas, the owner, came out for an estimate and immediately set the tone for the whole experience—professional, friendly, and easy to work with. Michelle, Rusty, and Dale were phenomenal—they went above and beyond, even helping fix a few spots that needed repair before painting, which made a huge difference. The customer service was top-notch, and it was a pleasure to talk with them. Our home feels completely refreshed, like a brand-new space. We’re already planning to hire the same exact crew again in the spring for the exterior. Highly recommend!”

“I initially worked with Thomas as the consultant and person who came to my house to discuss both the interior and exterior paint projects. He was great to work with, knew his info, made great suggestions, and checked back on any questions I had before I decided to use New Leaf Painting to do the job. When the projects started I worked with Billy and his crew. They were great to work with. They were on time, professional, well mannered. They set up in the garage and I was amazed at how quickly they removed old wallpaper and prepped the rooms for painting. They checked with me to make sure I was good as I was working from home. The interior turned out great. They then tackled the outside. I needed some repair work on my chimney and we discussed additional work they found after tearing off old parts. They made sure I was ok with what needed to be done. The same thing happened by my front door. Then I wanted my front door stained but they convinced me I would be unhappy with the results so we went to plan B and painted the door the same color as the shutters and it turned out great. I had friends over Labor Day Weekend and they were impressed with how well the house looked. All the workers put in plenty of hours, were courteous, cleaned up and generally went the extra mile on my projects. I appreciated the hard work and attention to detail. Overall I was extremely satisfied with the results of both the interior and exterior paint projects. Thanks New Leaf.”

A Local Jacksonville Painter You Can Count On

A Jacksonville Painting Company Built on Quality, Preparation & Trust

A New Leaf Painting Contractors is a family-owned Jacksonville company, and that means the work is personal to us.

When I think about the homes we work in, I think about my own family. I think about who is coming through the door, how the home is treated, whether people feel informed, and whether the job is being handled with the kind of care I would want for the people I love.

That is why we focus so heavily on preparation, communication, respect, and accountability.

We are not just trying to leave behind a good paint job. We want homeowners to feel comfortable with the people in their home, confident in the process, and proud of the result when the work is done.

That is the kind of company I want my daughters to be proud of — and the kind of company I want your family to feel good about hiring.

Jacksonville Painting Contractors — Our Services, Standards & Process

The A New Leaf Standard: More Than Paint on the Walls

A New Leaf Painting Contractors has served homeowners and businesses across Jacksonville and Northeast Florida since 2010. Over that time we've completed more than 5,000 residential and commercial projects: interior painting, exterior painting, cabinet painting and refinishing, stucco repair, wood rot and carpentry repairs, drywall repair, and garage floor coatings.

The paint is the part everyone sees. It is also the last thing that happens on a well-run project.

Before the finish coat, someone has to decide which surfaces need repair, what needs to be replaced rather than covered, how furniture, floors, landscaping, and driveways will be protected, which products suit each surface, and how the work will be scheduled around the people living in the home. Those decisions determine whether a paint job only looks good the week it's finished, or keeps looking right years later.

That's the work we manage. As painting contractors in Jacksonville, FL, we handle the preparation, repairs, protection, coatings, communication, and follow-through that shape how your project turns out.

What that looks like on your project

  • A written proposal. Your scope, preparation, repairs, products, and price are spelled out before work begins, so you know exactly what you're paying for.
  • Dates before the crew arrives. You get your schedule up front, not after the work has started.
  • Preparation first. Washing, scraping, sanding, repairs, caulking, and priming are done where the surface calls for them, not skipped to save time.
  • Quality coatings. We use Sherwin-Williams® and Benjamin Moore® products, selected for the surface and its exposure.
  • Protection and a clean jobsite. Floors, furniture, fixtures, and landscaping are covered, and work areas are kept organized every day.
  • Experienced, background-checked crews who respect your home and your family's routine.
  • A final walkthrough with you before the project is considered complete.
  • Accountability afterward. Workmanship is backed by our written Iron-Clad Guarantee, and the warranty terms are included in your proposal.

A New Leaf is licensed and insured, holds a Duval County Certificate of Competency, and is EPA Lead-Safe Certified for work on homes built before 1978.

Interior Painting for Jacksonville Homes

Interior painting looks simple from the outside: pick a color and roll it on. In practice, the finished room depends on what happens before the color goes up. That includes the condition of the walls, how repairs are blended, which sheen is chosen, how the light hits each surface, and how carefully trim, ceilings, and edges are cut in.

Our interior painters work on everything from a single bedroom to complete interior repaints:

  • Walls and ceilings
  • Trim, baseboards, and crown molding
  • Interior doors and door frames
  • Closets, when included in the scope
  • Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms
  • Stairwells, hallways, and high ceilings

Preparation you can't see, but will notice

Most interior problems show up after the paint dries. Nail pops, patched cracks, and dents that weren't feathered out properly all flash through a fresh coat, especially on walls lit by a window. That's why drywall repair and texture matching are part of the job, not an afterthought. Gaps along trim and baseboards are caulked so the lines read clean, and stains, bare patches, or glossy surfaces are primed where adhesion or coverage requires it.

Older homes in Riverside, Avondale, San Marco, and Ortega often bring plaster walls, multiple layers of old paint, and original trim that may have been finished in oil. These surfaces need a different preparation approach than newer drywall homes in Nocatee or Julington Creek. For homes built before 1978, we follow EPA lead-safe work practices.

Protection and daily organization

You're living in the home while we work, so we treat it that way. Floors and furniture are covered, fixtures and outlets are protected, and work areas are cleaned up at the end of each day. Rooms are returned to use as quickly as the work allows.

Product and sheen selection

Product choice matters as much as color. We typically work with Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore interior lines, choosing products by room and use: a scrubbable finish for a busy hallway or kids' room, a moisture-tolerant product for a bathroom, a flat or matte finish for ceilings that hides imperfections. We'll walk you through those choices during your estimate so the finish suits how each room is actually used.

Exterior Painting Built for Northeast Florida Conditions

Exterior paint in Northeast Florida works hard. Intense sun and UV exposure fade and break down coatings, especially on south- and west-facing walls. High humidity and frequent summer storms keep surfaces damp, and mildew and algae grow quickly in shaded areas. Homes near the coast, from the Jacksonville Beaches to Ponte Vedra Beach and Amelia Island, also deal with salt air.

Those conditions expose weak spots fast. That's why our exterior painters start by understanding the house before talking about paint.

Most paint problems start underneath the paint

Peeling, bubbling, and early failure usually aren't caused by the paint itself. They come from what's underneath it: cracked stucco that lets water in, deteriorated wood, failing caulk around windows and trim, or a previous coating that has lost its bond. Another coat over those problems only hides them for a while.

On a typical exterior, that means:

  • Washing the surfaces to remove dirt, chalk, mildew, and algae before any coating goes on
  • Scraping and sanding loose or failing paint where needed
  • Repairing cracked stucco and replacing rotted fascia, soffit, trim, or siding with sound material
  • Caulking joints, window and door perimeters, and trim gaps that let water in
  • Priming bare wood, repairs, and problem areas, either spot-primed or fully primed depending on the surface
  • Selecting coatings suited to the substrate and its exposure

The surfaces we paint

Jacksonville-area homes vary widely, and each surface needs its own approach:

  • Stucco, common throughout Mandarin, the Southside, Deerwood, Baymeadows, and much of St. Johns County. Cracks need to be evaluated and repaired, and stucco needs a coating made for masonry.
  • James Hardie® fiber cement, found on many newer homes in Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, and Fleming Island
  • T1-11 siding, which is prone to moisture damage at its lower edges and seams
  • Wood siding and trim, especially on older homes in Riverside, Avondale, and Ortega
  • Brick, when painting is appropriate for the home
  • Fascia, soffits, doors, and garage doors

We work with exterior systems from Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore, including products like SW Loxon® XP for masonry and stucco and SW Emerald® and Duration® exterior lines, selected for the surface and the home. If your community has an HOA or architectural review board, we can provide the color, sheen, and product details your HOA application requires.

How long an exterior lasts depends on the condition of the surface, the products used, the exposure, and how the home is maintained. Our exterior workmanship warranty and its terms are written into your proposal.

What a Thorough Exterior Painting Estimate Should Cover

A lasting paint job starts with understanding the surfaces beneath it. When comparing estimates, look for an exterior walkthrough that addresses these four areas.

  1. Surface Condition & Moisture Concerns
Look for damaged stucco, deteriorated wood, peeling paint, and visible signs of moisture. Ask whether questionable areas need moisture testing or further evaluation before painting.

  2. Existing Paint & Weather Exposure
Check for fading, chalking, cracking, and poor adhesion, especially on sun-exposed walls. These conditions help determine the preparation, primer, and finish coatings needed.

  3. Caulking, Joints & Repairs
Review gaps and failed sealant around trim, windows, doors, and other transitions. The written estimate should identify included repairs and distinguish painting preparation from issues requiring another specialist.

  4. Colors & HOA Approval
Confirm body, trim, and accent colors, along with any neighborhood approval requirements. Obtain required HOA approval before work begins.

The A New Leaf Approach

Your estimate should explain what we observed, the preparation and repairs included, the recommended coatings, and any concerns that need further evaluation—so you understand the work before it begins.

Cabinet Painting & Refinishing

Painted cabinets can change the entire feel of a kitchen or bathroom without the cost, disruption, or timeline of a full remodel. But cabinets take far more daily wear than a wall. Doors are opened dozens of times a day, edges get bumped, and kitchen surfaces collect grease. That's why cabinet painting is a separate craft from wall painting, and why the preparation matters so much.

How a durable cabinet finish is built

  • Cleaning and degreasing. Kitchen cabinets carry years of cooking residue. Paint won't bond to it, so it has to come off first.
  • Sanding and scuffing. Existing finishes are dulled so the new coating has something to grip.
  • Bonding primer. Applied where the surface calls for it, especially over slick or previously finished cabinets.
  • Cabinet-grade coatings. We use products designed for cabinetry, such as Sherwin-Williams Emerald® Urethane Trim Enamel, which levels to a smooth finish and cures harder than standard wall paint.
  • Controlled application. Depending on the project, doors and drawer fronts may be sprayed for a smoother, more even finish, while cabinet boxes are finished in place.

Cure time and durability

A cabinet finish dries to the touch quickly, but it takes longer to fully cure and reach its full hardness. We'll explain how to treat your cabinets during the first few weeks so the finish holds up the way it should.

Color and sheen

Cabinet colors read differently from wall colors because cabinets fill so much of the room. We'll help you weigh color against your countertops, backsplash, flooring, and hardware, and choose a sheen that balances appearance with how easy the cabinets are to clean. If you're looking for cabinet painting in Jacksonville, FL, we'll show you exactly what the process includes during your estimate.

Choosing a Painting Company in Jacksonville

There are a lot of painters in Jacksonville. Most homeowners collect two or three estimates and are left comparing numbers that don't describe the same job. The most useful thing you can do is compare scopes, not totals.

What to compare on every estimate

  • Written scope of work. Which rooms, surfaces, and areas are included, and which aren't?
  • Surface preparation. Is the preparation described, or just assumed?
  • Repairs. Are stucco, wood rot, drywall, or caulking repairs included, and how are additional repairs handled if they're found?
  • Number of coats, where applicable
  • Specific products. Brand and product line, not just "premium paint"
  • Protection and cleanup. How your floors, furniture, landscaping, and property will be protected
  • Insurance. Ask for proof of liability coverage.
  • Warranty. What's covered, for how long, and is it in writing?
  • Communication. Who manages the project, and who do you call when you have a question?

A lower number often reflects less preparation, fewer repairs, or a different product, not a better deal. Comparing estimates apples-to-apples is the easiest way to see the difference. Our guide on how to choose a painting contractor goes deeper.

What a professional painting company actually does

Putting painters on a job is only part of the work. Behind every well-run project there's an estimate built from a real walkthrough of your home, a scope developed around what the surfaces actually need, and a schedule coordinated around crews, materials, weather, and your household.

Before the first day, colors are confirmed and products are ordered. During the project, someone is managing the crew, checking quality, and keeping you informed. At the end, punch-list items are completed, a final walkthrough is held with you, and warranty support is there if you need it afterward. That coordination is often what separates a project that runs smoothly from one that drifts.

Choosing color and finish

Color rarely looks the same on your wall as it does on a paint chip. It shifts with:

  • Natural light and the direction the room faces
  • Your flooring, cabinets, and trim
  • Furniture and surrounding colors
  • Time of day

That's why we recommend looking at samples in the actual space before deciding. Our color consultation service can help narrow the choices.

Finish matters just as much. These are common starting points, not fixed rules:

  • Flat or matte for ceilings and walls where hiding imperfections is the priority
  • Eggshell for living areas and bedrooms, with a little more washability
  • Satin for high-traffic areas, kitchens, and bathrooms
  • Semi-gloss for trim and doors that take regular contact
  • Cabinet-grade finishes for cabinetry

What happens when you book with us

Jacksonville Painting Guide for Homeowners

Jacksonville Homes & Why Local Conditions Matter

Jacksonville homes vary widely in age, construction, and exposure.

In older neighborhoods such as Riverside, Avondale, Ortega, Murray Hill, and San Marco, homes may have wood siding, older trim, plaster interiors, multiple layers of previous coatings, or repaired surfaces that need extra attention before painting.

Newer homes throughout Mandarin, Julington Creek, Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, St. Johns, and Fleming Island are more likely to include stucco, fiber-cement siding, newer drywall systems, and modern exterior finishes.

Those differences matter because paint performs differently depending on the surface underneath it.

Stucco can develop cracking and moisture-related problems. Wood trim and fascia can deteriorate when water gets behind failing coatings or caulk. Fiber-cement siding has its own preparation and coating needs. Older painted surfaces may require more careful evaluation before sanding, scraping, or recoating.

Jacksonville’s climate adds another layer.

Strong sun and UV exposure can fade and break down coatings. High humidity and frequent rain can keep surfaces damp. Shaded areas may be more prone to mildew and algae growth. Homes closer to Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, and the coast can also experience added salt-air exposure.

That is why painting in Northeast Florida should start with the condition of the home, not simply the color you want to put on it.

When to Paint in Jacksonville

Jacksonville allows for painting during much of the year, but exterior conditions still matter.

Exterior paint needs the right combination of temperature, dry surfaces, weather stability, and enough time to properly set before rain or heavy overnight moisture.

Summer can bring intense heat, high humidity, and fast-moving afternoon storms. That may affect when crews start, which elevations are painted at certain times of day, and how much exterior work can reasonably be completed before weather moves in.

Cooler months can offer comfortable working conditions, but morning dew can leave surfaces damp well after sunrise. A wall that looks dry from a distance may still hold enough moisture to affect coating performance.

Rain is not the only consideration.

Surface temperature, humidity, direct sunlight, shade, overnight moisture, and the specific application requirements of the coating all matter.

The right question is not simply:

“What month is best to paint?”

It is:

“Are the conditions right for this surface and this coating today?”

Interior painting and cabinet refinishing are less dependent on outdoor weather and can generally be completed year-round, provided the interior environment is suitable for the products being used.

HOAs, Older Homes & Special Considerations

Many Jacksonville-area communities have homeowners associations or architectural review boards that regulate exterior color changes.

That is especially common in newer and master-planned communities throughout Nocatee, St. Johns, Julington Creek, Ponte Vedra, Fleming Island, and other parts of Northeast Florida.

Depending on the community, approval may be required for:

  • Main body color
  • Trim color
  • Front door color
  • Garage door color
  • Accent colors
  • Paint manufacturer
  • Product line
  • Sheen

Before making final color selections, homeowners should confirm what their HOA requires.

A New Leaf Painting Contractors can provide the color, sheen, product, and project information needed to help with the approval process.

Older homes require a different kind of attention.

Homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint. When painted surfaces are disturbed through scraping, sanding, or repair work, EPA lead-safe work practices may apply.

A New Leaf Painting Contractors is EPA Lead-Safe Certified for work where those requirements apply.

Older homes may also have plaster walls, oil-painted trim, previous repairs, multiple coating layers, wood siding, and other surfaces that should be evaluated before work begins.

The age of the home does not automatically make the project more difficult.

It simply means the preparation should reflect the materials that are actually there.

Choosing Colors for Jacksonville Homes

Paint color should work with the home rather than compete with it.

For exteriors, start by looking at the fixed elements that are not being painted:

  • Roof color
  • Brick
  • Stone
  • Pavers
  • Driveway
  • Landscaping
  • Windows
  • Existing architectural details
  • Neighboring homes
  • HOA requirements

Sun exposure matters too.

A color on a heavily shaded elevation can look noticeably different from the same color in strong afternoon sunlight.

That is especially important on larger stucco homes, where broad wall areas can amplify undertones.

For interiors, consider:

  • Natural light
  • Direction of the room
  • Flooring
  • Cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Trim
  • Furniture
  • Adjacent rooms
  • Artificial lighting

A paint chip is useful for narrowing choices, but it is not the same as seeing the color in the actual room.

Whenever possible, evaluate samples in the space at different times of day.

Finish selection matters as well.

Matte, eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss finishes can affect how much light reflects off the wall, how visible imperfections appear, and how easily a surface can be cleaned.

The best color decision is usually the one that considers the home, the light, the surrounding materials, and the way the space is actually used.

Jacksonville Homeowner Painting Checklist

Before requesting estimates, walk around your home and make a short list of what you are seeing.

For exteriors, look for peeling or chalking paint, cracked stucco, soft or deteriorated trim, open caulk joints, damaged siding, mildew, staining, and areas where water may be getting in.

For interiors, look for nail pops, drywall cracks, stains, damaged trim, failing caulk, previous patchwork, uneven texture, and areas where the existing finish is difficult to clean.

When comparing painting contractors, ask:

  • What preparation is included?
  • What repairs are included?
  • How are additional repairs handled if discovered?
  • Which paint manufacturer and product line will be used?
  • How many coats are included where applicable?
  • Is priming included where the surface needs it?
  • How will floors, furniture, landscaping, and surrounding areas be protected?
  • Who manages the project?
  • Who is your point of contact?
  • Is the company insured?
  • Are warranty terms in writing?
  • What happens at the final walkthrough?

The goal is to compare the scope, not just the price.

A lower estimate may simply include less preparation, fewer repairs, different products, or less project management.

A good estimate should leave you with fewer questions, not more.

And before the work begins, you should understand what is being painted, how it will be prepared, which products are being used, who is managing the project, and what happens if something changes along the way.
