“Update: had the crew come back a few months later for the exterior. You won’t be disappointed. We hired A New Leaf to repaint the interior of our home, and we couldn’t be happier! Thomas, the owner, came out for an estimate and immediately set the tone for the whole experience—professional, friendly, and easy to work with. Michelle, Rusty, and Dale were phenomenal—they went above and beyond, even helping fix a few spots that needed repair before painting, which made a huge difference. The customer service was top-notch, and it was a pleasure to talk with them. Our home feels completely refreshed, like a brand-new space. We’re already planning to hire the same exact crew again in the spring for the exterior. Highly recommend!”

“I initially worked with Thomas as the consultant and person who came to my house to discuss both the interior and exterior paint projects. He was great to work with, knew his info, made great suggestions, and checked back on any questions I had before I decided to use New Leaf Painting to do the job. When the projects started I worked with Billy and his crew. They were great to work with. They were on time, professional, well mannered. They set up in the garage and I was amazed at how quickly they removed old wallpaper and prepped the rooms for painting. They checked with me to make sure I was good as I was working from home. The interior turned out great. They then tackled the outside. I needed some repair work on my chimney and we discussed additional work they found after tearing off old parts. They made sure I was ok with what needed to be done. The same thing happened by my front door. Then I wanted my front door stained but they convinced me I would be unhappy with the results so we went to plan B and painted the door the same color as the shutters and it turned out great. I had friends over Labor Day Weekend and they were impressed with how well the house looked. All the workers put in plenty of hours, were courteous, cleaned up and generally went the extra mile on my projects. I appreciated the hard work and attention to detail. Overall I was extremely satisfied with the results of both the interior and exterior paint projects. Thanks New Leaf.”

The A New Leaf Standard

The Difference Is in the Details You Notice Every Day.

A fresh coat of paint is easy to promise. What you live with afterward is the difference — careful preparation, protected floors and furniture, smooth repairs, clean lines, quality materials, and clear communication — all finished with care.

Since 2010, we’ve brought that same standard to interior projects of every size — from a single room or drywall repair to walls, ceilings, trim, doors, cabinets, and complete whole-home repaints.

  • We fix before we paint

Wall and ceiling repairs, drywall damage, cracks, nail pops, stains, and other interior surface problems are repaired and prepared before the finish coat goes on.

  • One project at a time

Your crew stays focused on your project instead of bouncing between multiple jobs and leaving you waiting.

  • Your home stays protected

We carefully protect floors, furniture, fixtures, cabinetry, and nearby surfaces while keeping work areas clean and organized throughout your project.

  • Screened Professionals

Our painters are background-checked, trained, and trusted to work inside your home with care, professionalism, and respect.

Experience the difference of working with a team dedicated to your home’s beauty and long-term protection.

What to expect

Our Proven Interior Painting Process

  1. 01

    In-Home Consultation

We walk through your home with you and talk about:

    • The rooms, ceilings and trim on your list
    • The colors and finish you have in mind
    • Your timeline, and how you use each space
    • Stains, odors, texture or damage you want handled
  2. 02

    Surface Inspection & Written Scope

Before anything is priced, we check the surfaces:

    • Dings, cracks and nail pops that need repair
    • Where sanding and primer will be needed
    • The right sheen for each room
    • Moisture in bathrooms and kitchens
    • Then the scope goes in writing, so there are no surprises
  3. 03

    Color & Sheen Selection

    Getting the color right matters:

    • Samples seen in your own light, morning and evening
    • Help narrowing the choices if you want it
    • Paint and sheen confirmed before work starts
  4. 04

    Protection & Preparation

A good finish starts with prep:

    • Floors, furniture and fixtures covered and protected
    • Drywall repairs patched and sanded smooth
    • Surfaces cleaned and scuffed so the paint bonds
    • Spot priming on repairs and big color changes
    • Fresh caulk where trim gaps have opened
  5. 05

    Professional Application

Premium interior paint, applied with care:

    • Clean cut lines at ceilings and trim
    • Brush and roller work suited to each surface
    • A second coat wherever the color or surface needs it
    • Even coverage, checked in good light
  6. 06

    Final Walkthrough & Cleanup

    Before we call it finished:

    • We walk every room with you
    • Touch-ups are handled on the spot
    • Protection comes down and furniture goes back
    • Your home is left cleaner than we found it

MORE THAN JUST A FRESH COAT

Common Interior Painting Problems We Solve

Most homeowners aren’t just thinking about color. They’re wondering whether the cracks will be repaired properly, whether old patches will still show, whether high-traffic walls will hold up, and how disruptive the project will be inside their home. These are the issues we pay attention to before the first finish coat goes on.
  • Walls That Look Worn, Dark or Dated

Scuffs, faded colors and builder-grade finishes make a home feel tired. The right color and sheen can transform a room, and durable finishes hold up better in hallways, kids’ rooms and stairwells.

  • Cracks, Nail Pops & Damaged Drywall

Small defects stand out more after fresh paint. We repair cracks, nail pops, holes and damaged drywall, match the existing texture, then prepare the surface before painting.

  • Patches & Repairs That Show Through Paint

Visible patches, roller marks and uneven sheen usually come from rushed preparation. Proper sanding, priming and spot-correcting create a smooth, uniform finish.

  • Water Stains on Ceilings & Walls

Once a leak is fixed, the stain often stays behind and bleeds through regular paint. We seal it with a stain-blocking primer, repair any damaged drywall, then repaint so it doesn’t come back through.

  • Peeling Paint & Mildew in Bathrooms

Steam and humidity break down the wrong paint quickly. We clean and treat the surface, repair failed areas, and use moisture-resistant finishes made for bathrooms.

  • The Mess & Disruption of Having Painters Inside

For many homeowners, the biggest worry is having a crew in the house. We move standard furniture away from the walls, cover furniture, floors and electronics, keep work areas organized and clean up every day. Please put away small items such as lamps, décor and valuables ahead of time.

Paints & Coatings

The Right Paint for Every Surface, Inside and Out

We use Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore products, chosen for the surface, the room and the Florida conditions it faces. The exact products for your project are listed in your written estimate.

  • Exteriors

Coatings for stucco, siding and trim that help resist sun, humidity, rain and mildew.

  • Interiors

Washable finishes for kitchens, baths and high-traffic rooms, softer sheens for bedrooms.

  • Primers That Fit the Job

Stain-blocking, bonding and masonry primers so the topcoat lasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about pricing, timelines, services, warranty coverage, and working with A New Leaf Painting Contractors.
  • Interior painting costs vary based on the size of the home, number of rooms, surfaces being painted, repairs, preparation, color changes, and products selected. We provide a written estimate that clearly outlines the scope before work begins.

  • Most interior painting projects take several days, depending on the size of the project, repairs, preparation, number of surfaces, and drying time. A single room may be completed much faster, while larger whole-home projects require more time.

  • Yes. We move and protect standard furniture in the work areas, cover floors and nearby surfaces, and keep occupied spaces as clean and organized as possible throughout the project.

  • Yes. Drywall repairs, nail pops, cracks, dents, holes, texture issues, and other surface damage can be repaired and prepared before painting when included in the project scope.

  • It depends on the cause and condition of the surface. We repair damaged areas as needed, address stains appropriately, sand and prepare the surface, and prime where required before applying the finish coats. Painting over an unresolved stain or damaged surface can allow the problem to show through again.

  • In many cases, yes. We coordinate the work area with you, protect surrounding spaces, and plan the project so your home remains as functional as possible. Larger projects may require certain rooms to be unavailable while work is underway.

  • Our interior painting projects include a 2-year workmanship warranty, subject to the terms of the written warranty and project scope.

  • We use professional-grade Sherwin-Williams® and Benjamin Moore® products, selecting the paint and finish based on the room, surface, condition, sheen, and how the space is used.

  • Sheen depends on the room, lighting, surface condition, and how much cleaning or wear the area receives. We help you compare options for walls, ceilings, trim, doors, kitchens, bathrooms, and high-traffic areas so the finish looks right and performs well.

  • Large color changes can require additional preparation, primer, or extra coats for proper coverage. We evaluate the existing color and surface condition before work begins so the right system is included in the scope.

  • Sometimes, but not always. Touch-ups can stand out because of sheen, fading, texture, application method, or the age of the existing paint. For walls, the best-looking result is often repainting the surface from corner to corner. Trim and doors are usually more forgiving.

  • Yes. Interior projects can include walls, ceilings, baseboards, crown molding, doors, door frames, window trim, built-ins, railings, and other painted woodwork depending on the scope of the project.

The Complete Jacksonville Interior Painting Guide

What to know before an interior repaint: what a professional job covers, how each room is prepared and painted, and three real projects from start to finish. Written by the A New Leaf team.

A New Leaf Painting Contractors · Homeowner guide

What a Professional Interior Repaint Includes

More Than Wall Color

A professional interior repaint prepares and refinishes the surfaces that make up an entire room. Depending on the scope, that can include walls, ceilings, baseboards, crown molding, window casings, fluted trim, interior doors and door frames, along with the drywall repairs, wallpaper removal, caulking, sanding and spot priming that come before any finish coat.

Not every project needs every step. What a home actually requires depends on the condition of the surfaces, the existing finish, and what is included in the project scope.

When it is part of the scope, repainting the ceilings, trim, doors and architectural details along with the walls gives a far more complete result than a wall-only color change.

Every Surface, Every Room

  • Walls
  • Ceilings, including vaulted ceilings and high foyers
  • Baseboards, crown molding and chair rail molding
  • Window and door casings, including fluted trim
  • Interior doors, French doors and door frames
  • Mantels, bookshelves and built-ins
  • Paneling and wainscoting
  • Stair railings, spindles and newel posts
  • Cabinets and wood shelves

Repairs and Specialty Work

  • Drywall repair and replacement: holes, cracks, dents, nail pops and damaged drywall repaired, sanded and primed before painting
  • Texture matching: knockdown, orange peel and smooth textures matched so repairs blend into the walls and ceilings around them
  • Wallpaper removal: wallpaper and adhesive removed, damaged areas repaired, and the walls prepared for fresh paint
  • Popcorn ceiling removal
  • Stain blocking and precision caulking
  • Custom colors, with an in-home color consultation to choose colors and sheens that suit your lighting, flooring, cabinetry and furnishings

The Projects Homeowners Ask For Most

  • Whole-home interior repaints
  • Three to five room repaints, such as the kitchen, hallways and bathrooms
  • Move-in and move-out painting
  • Apartment and condo painting
  • Rental turnovers for landlords and property managers, ready for the next tenant

Paint and Sheen

We use premium Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore paints, and the finish is specified for each surface and room. Our guides compare flat, matte and eggshell, explain the best interior paint for Florida homes, and show why the walls in newer homes often scuff early (builder-grade paint vs. premium paint).

How Each Room Is Prepared and Painted

Preparation Comes First

The difference between an average paint job and a professional interior finish comes down to preparation, protection, communication, and choosing the right product and sheen for each room. Here is what the preparation involves:

  • Wallpaper Removal

Wallpaper needs to come off properly, and the wall underneath needs to be evaluated before repainting. Adhesive residue and damaged paper facing both affect how a new finish behaves.

  • Drywall and Texture

Holes, cracks, dents and nail pops are repaired and sanded, and patched areas are re-textured, orange peel or knockdown, to blend with the wall around them. Our guide explains why drywall repairs can show through paint.

  • Sanding

Sanding smooths previous brush marks, patched repairs, rough trim and other imperfections, and gives the next coat a better surface to bond to.

  • Caulking

Gaps and joints at trim, baseboards, crown molding, and window and door casings are caulked where appropriate, for cleaner transitions and a more finished look.

  • Priming Where Needed

Primer is used for adhesion, stain blocking, over repairs, on significant color changes, or on previously unpainted surfaces, rather than applied everywhere by default.

  • Trim Preparation

Glossy or previously coated woodwork usually takes more preparation than walls do. Trim is seen up close, and its prep decides how the finish reads.

Our Five-Step Process

  1. Set up and protect. We move large furniture away from the walls, cover floors and built-ins with drop cloths, and isolate work zones to keep the rest of your home organized and livable.
  2. Repair, sand and prepare. We fill holes and cracks, repair drywall as needed, re-texture patched areas, sand smooth, and seal stains before any finish coat.
  3. Prime and paint. Primer where it is needed, then the specified paint system applied at the correct sheen and coat count for each surface and room.
  4. Clean up daily. At the end of every workday we collect materials, vacuum and sweep, and leave the rooms livable, with no paint cans or drop cloths left in your living room overnight.
  5. Final walkthrough. Before we call the project complete, your crew leader walks you through every room, reviews the finishes with you, and addresses anything that does not meet your standard.

Working Inside Your Home

Interior painting means working around your family, pets and daily routine. Every A New Leaf painter is background-checked and trained before entering a customer’s home.

Your crew leader keeps you up to date each day on what was finished and what comes next. On larger projects we plan which rooms are being worked on each day, so you can plan around the work and keep your home as functional as possible.

Every project is backed by our written workmanship warranty.

Every home needs a different scope. These three projects show the range, from a full luxury repaint to a walls-only job.

Luxury Repainting on the St. Johns River in Mandarin

A luxury home overlooking the St. Johns River, with extensive preparation and detailed finish work throughout the interior. The scope included wallpaper removal, sanding, caulking, selective priming, and repainting the walls, ceilings, trim, doors, crown molding and fluted cased windows.

Projects at this level need careful surface preparation and close attention to architectural details, so the finished interior looks consistent from room to room.

Whole-Home Repaint in Jacksonville Golf & Country Club

A Walls-Only Repaint in Queens Harbor

Not every project calls for repainting everything. This Queens Harbor home had extensive crown molding, baseboards and casings that were staying exactly as they were, so the scope covered the walls across the foyer, family room, dining room, living room, kitchen, breakfast area, hallways, laundry room, primary bedroom and back stairway, and nothing else.

Preparation included localized drywall patching, nail pops, nicks and dings. With the finished millwork staying in place, the new wall finish had to meet it cleanly on every run of trim.
