“I can't say enough about Thomas and his team at A New Leaf. From the initial estimate (which was far more reasonable than our other bid) through the process of painting our kitchen cabinets, the whole experience was stress free. It's very refreshing in this day and age to not only have contractors in your home that are polite, respectful and first rate painters, they arrived on time every day they were at our home to do the job. Thank you Johnny and Mike for a job well done! Highly recommend!”

“Update: had the crew come back a few months later for the exterior. You won’t be disappointed. We hired A New Leaf to repaint the interior of our home, and we couldn’t be happier! Thomas, the owner, came out for an estimate and immediately set the tone for the whole experience—professional, friendly, and easy to work with. Michelle, Rusty, and Dale were phenomenal—they went above and beyond, even helping fix a few spots that needed repair before painting, which made a huge difference. The customer service was top-notch, and it was a pleasure to talk with them. Our home feels completely refreshed, like a brand-new space. We’re already planning to hire the same exact crew again in the spring for the exterior. Highly recommend!”

“I initially worked with Thomas as the consultant and person who came to my house to discuss both the interior and exterior paint projects. He was great to work with, knew his info, made great suggestions, and checked back on any questions I had before I decided to use New Leaf Painting to do the job. When the projects started I worked with Billy and his crew. They were great to work with. They were on time, professional, well mannered. They set up in the garage and I was amazed at how quickly they removed old wallpaper and prepped the rooms for painting. They checked with me to make sure I was good as I was working from home. The interior turned out great. They then tackled the outside. I needed some repair work on my chimney and we discussed additional work they found after tearing off old parts. They made sure I was ok with what needed to be done. The same thing happened by my front door. Then I wanted my front door stained but they convinced me I would be unhappy with the results so we went to plan B and painted the door the same color as the shutters and it turned out great. I had friends over Labor Day Weekend and they were impressed with how well the house looked. All the workers put in plenty of hours, were courteous, cleaned up and generally went the extra mile on my projects. I appreciated the hard work and attention to detail. Overall I was extremely satisfied with the results of both the interior and exterior paint projects. Thanks New Leaf.”

A Smarter Alternative to Cabinet Replacement

Our Cabinet Painters Create Beautiful, Lasting Finishes

Want to update your kitchen without the cost and disruption of a full remodel? Painting, Repairs & FinishesExpert Painting Solutions

A Fresh Kitchen Transformation Without the Cost of New Cabinets

Looking for cabinet painters who treat your kitchen like the room it is? Cabinets are handled every day, wiped down constantly, and seen from a few inches away, so adhesion and a smooth, durable finish matter far more than they do on a wall. That’s why every cabinet project starts with an honest look at what is on your cabinets now, and why we clean, prep, and prime for that surface before any coating goes on. It is a cost-effective alternative to replacement that still looks and feels new.

Our Complete Cabinet Painting Services

  • Kitchen Cabinet PaintingDoors, drawer fronts, face frames, boxes, and end panels are each coated with cabinet-specific finishes made for hard, everyday use.
  • Bathroom Vanities & Built-InsVanities, built-ins, and shelving get the same careful prep and durable finish as your kitchen cabinets.
  • Laminate & Thermofoil CabinetsSlick factory finishes, laminate, and thermofoil get a bonding primer where the surface needs it, so the new coating grips.
  • Cleaning & DegreasingCooking residue and oils are removed first, because a coating bonds to whatever it is applied over, including grease.
  • Surface Preparation & RepairsDents, chips, worn edges, and separated joints are addressed, and surfaces are sanded or scuffed so the finish goes on smooth.
  • Priming Where RequiredBonding primer goes on where the substrate calls for it, including slick finishes and woods prone to tannin bleed.
  • Protection & SetupCountertops, backsplashes, appliances, and floors are masked and protected before any work begins.
  • Hardware Removal & ReinstallationHardware comes off and stays organized, doors are labeled, and everything goes back to its original opening.

The A New Leaf Standard

The Difference Is in the Details You Notice Every Day.

A fresh coat of paint is easy to promise. What you live with afterward is the difference — careful preparation, quality materials, clean lines, protected surfaces, clear communication, and a job finished with care.

Since 2010, we’ve brought that same standard of care to every project — from a single room or cabinet refinishing project to complete exteriors, commercial spaces, and concrete coatings.

  • We fix before we paint

Stucco cracks, wood rot, drywall damage, and other surface problems are addressed before the finish coat goes on.

  • One project at a time

Your crew stays focused on your project instead of bouncing between multiple jobs and leaving you waiting.

  • Your home stays protected

Floors, furniture, landscaping, and surrounding surfaces are carefully protected while we work, with clean job sites maintained throughout the project.

  • Built for Florida homes

Our preparation and coating systems are selected around the heat, humidity, moisture, stucco, and exterior conditions common throughout Northeast Florida.

  • Kitchen with white painted cabinets and built-in ovens, Jacksonville FL

Experience the difference of working with a team dedicated to your home’s beauty and long-term protection.

What to expect

Our Proven Cabinet Painting & Refinishing Process

Cabinet painting is different from painting drywall. Cabinets are handled constantly, wiped down regularly, and viewed from a few inches away — so adhesion, surface smoothness and coating durability matter far more than they do on a wall.

The sequence below is the general shape of the work. What's actually required on any given kitchen depends on the cabinet material, the existing coating, how well a new coating will bond to it, surface contamination, any damage present, the finish you want and the coating system selected.

  1. 01

    Evaluate the Existing Finish

Before anything else, we look at what's on the cabinets now — whether it's a factory finish, a stain and topcoat, a previous paint job, laminate or thermofoil — and what condition it's in. This determines nearly everything that follows.

  2. 02

    Protection & Setup

Countertops, backsplashes, appliances, flooring and adjacent rooms are masked and protected. Hardware is removed and kept organized. Doors and drawer fronts are typically taken off and labeled so they return to the same openings.

  3. 03

    Cleaning & Degreasing

Kitchen cabinets accumulate cooking residue, oils and cleaning-product film — most heavily around the range and the frequently used doors. A coating applied over that residue bonds to the residue rather than to the cabinet. This step isn't optional on a kitchen.

  4. 04

    Surface Preparation

Sanding or scuffing may be appropriate depending on the existing finish, both to establish a profile the new coating can grip and to smooth the surface. How much is needed varies considerably between a stained wood cabinet, a previously painted one and a laminate face.

  5. 05

    Repairs & Defect Correction

Dents, chips, separated joints, worn edges and damaged areas are addressed where they can be. A coating shows a defect rather than hiding it, so anything that will be visible under the finish gets handled first.

  6. 06

    Primer Where Required

A bonding primer may be needed depending on the substrate and the existing coating — particularly on laminate, thermofoil, slick factory finishes or where tannin bleed from certain woods is a concern. It isn't a universal step. The substrate decides.

  7. 07

    Coating Application

Doors, drawer fronts, face frames, boxes, end panels and built-ins each get coated in the way that suits them. Cabinet-specific coatings are formulated for hard, cleanable surfaces that get handled daily — which is a different requirement than a wall paint is designed to meet.

  8. 08

    Reassembly & Final Review

Doors and drawer fronts go back to their labeled openings, hardware is reinstalled, protection comes down, and we walk the kitchen with you before the project is called complete.

Laminate and thermofoil cabinets have their own considerations. Our guide to painting laminate cabinets covers what's different about those surfaces.

Benefits of Professional Cabinet Refinishing

  • A New-Look Kitchen

Refinished cabinets change the whole feel of a kitchen without the cost and mess of a remodel.

  • A Fraction of Replacement

You keep the cabinets you have and change the finish, for far less than new ones.

  • Bathrooms and Built-Ins Too

Vanities and built-ins get the same care, so the new look carries through the house.

  • Your Color, Your Style

Choose any color and sheen, not just what a cabinet showroom stocks.

  • A Hard-Wearing Finish

Cabinet-grade coatings are made for surfaces that are handled every day, and they clean up easily.

  • Everything Back Where It Belongs

Doors and drawers are labeled, returned to their own openings and checked with you at the end.

Cabinet Painting & Refinishing Questions, Answered

What to know about cost, prep, coatings and the process before you refinish your cabinets instead of replacing them.

  • Cabinet painting costs vary based on the number of doors and drawers, cabinet size, layout, condition, repairs, color change, finish system, and the amount of preparation required. We provide a written estimate that clearly outlines the scope before work begins.

  • Most cabinet painting projects take several days, depending on the size of the kitchen, condition of the cabinets, preparation, drying time, and finish system used. Larger kitchens or cabinets needing repairs may require additional time.

  • Yes, proper surface preparation is important. Cabinets are cleaned, degreased, sanded or abraded as needed, and prepared so the primer and finish coats can bond properly.

  • Yes, doors and drawer fronts are typically removed so they can be properly prepared and finished. Cabinet boxes and fixed components are prepared and painted in place while surrounding surfaces are protected.

  • Yes. Laminate, thermofoil and slick factory finishes get a bonding primer where the surface needs it, so the new coating grips. We look at the existing finish and its condition first, because that determines nearly everything that follows.

  • We use professional cabinet-grade coatings designed for hard, frequently handled surfaces. Product selection depends on the existing cabinet material, condition, desired finish, color, and project requirements.

  • In many cases, yes. Stained, varnished, or previously painted cabinets can often be refinished when the surface is sound and properly prepared. The existing finish is evaluated before work begins so the correct preparation and primer system can be used.

  • Yes. Major color changes are common with cabinet refinishing, but they may require additional preparation, stain-blocking primer, and multiple coats to achieve an even, durable finish.

  • Minor paint-related repairs such as small dents, holes, damaged edges, failed caulk, or surface imperfections can often be addressed as part of the preparation. More extensive cabinet or structural repairs may require additional evaluation.

  • A properly prepared and professionally applied cabinet coating is designed to withstand normal household use, cleaning, and repeated handling. Durability depends heavily on surface preparation, product selection, application, and allowing the coating to cure properly.

  • Cabinets can usually be put back into light use after the coating has dried sufficiently, but full cure takes longer. We explain the recommended handling and cure time for the specific coating system used on your project.

  • Cabinet painting can be a good option when the existing cabinet boxes and doors are in good condition and the goal is to update the color and appearance. If the layout, structure, or cabinet condition is poor, replacement or refacing may make more sense.
